Can anyone help? I'm looking at a JD 855 4WD, with 70A loader, 225 hours, excellent condition, stored indoors, homeowner used only. Includes 60" belly mower, 4' york rake, 6' back blade. $14,500. 1) is this a reasonable price, 2) would a new 4200 be a better buy?

Hi Mike; That sounds like a good price. One year ago July I paid 12,550 for A 1990 JD 755, 4wd, 60" belly mower, #52 loader with 60" bucket with 313 hours. If it is in very good condition, it sounds good. As far as the 4200 being a better buy I have no experience.Hope this helps,David ....

Before considering buying the 4200 - read what others have to say about the scuffing issue with the 4200. I just got a 750 with 60" finishing deck - about 1985 - paid $7500 for it - 830 hrs. Since your looking at price, what does all that equipment cost new with the 4200? ....

Mike, a 4200 as equipted will probably be about $20K and the availability is ? Keep checking this net, others sites and [www.machinefinder.com]I just compared a new 4300 to a 955 I was looking at. A 4300 would not be obtainable until Dec '99, the price was substancially higher and warranty was the only advantage. The 70A loader new is about $3,100. The 60"deck new is about $2,500. Back blade about $700 and I have no clue as to the rake. In my opinion your paying about $10-11K for the 855 tractor. I opted for the 955, picked it up last night and am delighted. Good luck, Dan ....

Thanks for all the responses. The local dealer said a comparably equiped 4200 would run about 22K. I relealize I might do better if I shop around. I'm also considering the savings on sales tax by going used. I just found out the 855 is a '96 model. Dan - Would you mind sharing the details on your new 955 (equipment and price)? Also, do you know how much more a used 955 typical sells for over a used 855? The 955 seems to be a significant jump in HP and hydraulic perfomance over the 855. - Mike ....
